CETECOM Whitepaper: The current state of the radio equipment directive (RED)

The new CETECOM Whitepaper examines the changes in the RED over the past months and what this means for manufacturers in the product certification process.
RE Directive

The currently valid radio equipment directive (2014/53/EU) replaces the previously valid R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC since 13 June 2016. With the expiry of the transitional period on 12 June 2017, the RED is now the only valid directive and all products falling within the scope of RED need to meet the requirements.

The introduction of the RED was a challenge for manufacturers of products with radio technologies. At the end of the transitional period, many standards were still transposed into final specifications, resulting in immense uncertainty for all market participants.

Now the RED has been the only valid radio equipment directive for several months. In this period, however, a lot has changed, in particular the transfer in the official journal of the standards of some core technologies such as Bluetooth, WLAN 2.4 GHz and GSM/UMTS/LTE. The new CETECOM Whitepaper “Radio Equipment Directive – The new radio equipment directive in detail” examines the changes in the RED over the last few months, lists the standards that have not yet been transposed, and describes the issues that manufacturers are facing during the product certification.
