IEEE 802.11n is a breakthrough… based on MIMO technology that enables Wi-Fi® networks to transfer more data faster and over larger distances. Utilizing 802.11n offers the potential to deliver up to twice the range and five times the throughput of IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g Wi-Fi devices.

Because of the improved throughput and the multiple use of the frequency range, it is extremely important that systems of different manufacturers be free from interference within the same wireless infrastructure. The official IEEE 802.11n certification of the Wi-Fi Alliance guarantees

• Worldwide multi-vendor interoperability
• High security standards and
• Retroactive compatibility to IEEE 802.11 a, b and g networks.

In addition to the IEEE 802.11 a, b and g certification CETECOM is also accredited for the 802.11n certification. Worldwide there are just around 13 recognized laboratories to conduct these tests.

MIMO Technology

By using multiple antennas at the transmitter and the receiver separate data streams are transmitted at the same frequency but over different spatial channels. This technology is defined as MIMO (multiple input - multiple output). The result is that it enables more applications to use a wireless LAN that currently requires wired Ethernet. Point of sales transactions, voice over wireless LAN, Internet browsing, wireless backup, video-conferencing and medical imaging will all benefit from the increased performance. This new MIMO technology - which is designed to operate in both the 5 GHz and the 2.4 GHz frequency band - is also interesting for enterprise network managers who can upgrade their network tools with many new applications.
