Exemption for WAPI support in China

The ministry of information industry (MII) in China recently announced an update in the regulation concerning WAPI support. According to this update the following four product categories are exempted from the need to support WAPI:

  • Wireless information terminal

  • Wireless data terminal

  • Wireless POS terminal

  • Wireless vehicle terminal

This exemption is applicable for those four product categories if the device supports both WLAN and 2G/3G. So from now on WLan and 2G/3G may coexist on a device without the necessity of WAPI support.

New labeling requirements in Mexico

In September 2011 new labeling regulations came into effect in Mexico.
New devices which are sold or marketed in the country together with a power supply, a complete catalog of products is published by the authority, must show at least the following minimum information in a clear and visible format:

  • Energy consumption in operation per time

  • Energy consumption in standby mode per time

There are neither any special design nor any logo requirements specified so that the manufacturer is free to add the information in any way suitable to the specific needs.

New regulations in Albania

According to a council of ministers decision in Albania related to the transposition of directive 1999/5/EC new rules apply regarding the conformity of telecommunication products. According to these new rules the person responsible for placing a product on the local market shall notify the approval authority about this intention prior to placing the product on the market. This notification and conformity recognition procedure is obligatory for any radio equipment produced, imported and placed on the market in Albania with the only exemption of equipment working on harmonized frequency ranges.
Any such notification must be accompanied by a declaration of conformity issued by the manufacturer and/or a notified body expert opinion if applicable as well as a technical description and any relevant test report.

Based on this documentation the authority in Albania will issue a conformity recognition without any time limitation. Only after reception of this recognition the product may be legally placed on the Albanian market.
