Access to the North American market requires approval by the PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board). Effective July 5, 2007, the new NAPRD (North American Program Reference Document) version 3.12.0 requires dual-mode Wi-Fi® / mobile devices to undergo testing according to the “Test Plan for RF Performance Evaluation of Wi-Fi Mobile Converged Devices.”
Under this test plan, devices supporting IEEE 802.11a, b, or g combined with at least one or more cellular technologies (GSM, CDMA, UMTS) must undergo Wi-Fi Alliance® Certification testing for 802.11 a/b/g and RF performance evaluation (OTA and desense). The test plan helps ensure proper radio performance as more dual-mode Wi-Fi / mobile devices make their way onto the market.
CETECOM Inc. is the only lab in the US authorized to perform RF performance evaluation of WiFi / mobile devices on the CTIA and Wi-Fi Alliance’s behalf. Wi-Fi Alliance Certification testing and PTCRB approval are also offered as a part of CETECOM’s comprehensive service portfolio.
