Low Voltage Directive
The Low Voltage Directive applies to all electrical equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1000 V AC and between 75 and 1500 V DC.
The Directive defines 11 safety requirements to cover all risks arising from the use of electrical equiment. Besides electrical risk, these requirements refer also to mechanical, chemical and health aspects.
Electronical equipment that has been manufactured in accordance with harmonized standards benefits from presumption of conformity. If this is not the case the manufacturer must prove in the technical documentatin that the safety aspects of the Low Voltage Directive have been respected.
