IP (International Protection) classes

In many environments electronic devices must stand rough conditions and work for a covenant period of time even if they are set out to dirt, dust and humidity.

The housing impermeability to avoid the penetration of water and dust is classified following to the so-called IP Classes according to DIN EN 60529 or IEC 60529.

IP Class (standing for International Protection - in English-speaking area Ingress Protection) is a 2 Digit number; the first digit stands for the protection against solids, the second digit describes the grade of protection against water.

IP Testing against water and dust

  • CETECOM's testing service ‘IP Classes’ comprises the measurement procedure according to DIN EN 60529 or IEC 60529.
  • We have the capability to establish the protection degree in the categories IP11 up to IP68.
  • Following specific customer requirements we can also simulate further protection degrees such as the resistance against presswater.
  • For tests referring to IP5x (dust deposit) and IP6x (dust impermeability with low pressure) CETECOM disposes of a special dust collector for talcum powder.
